Pre Frenectomy Exercises for Children Older than 3

Prior to and after having a lingual frenectomy procedure performed (tongue tie release), it is important to perform exercises to help strengthen the tongue muscle and build oral awareness. This video demonstrates exercises to be performed 3-4 weeks prior to the procedure and for 1 week after the procedure. *these exercises are not meant to replace formal therapy by an Speech Language Pathologist, Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist or other appropriate functional provider

A description of each exercise is listed below:

1.      “tongue around the world”- close lips, roll tongue around entire mouth (go each direction 10 x twice a day)

2.      “clicks”- click tongue to roof of mouth but keep mouth open the entire time (30 x twice a day)

3.      “scrapers”- keep tongue on roof of mouth behind front teeth and drag it back while mouth remains open (10 x twice a day)

4.      “tongue push up”- take Popsicle stick, push tip of tongue against it and hold for 3 seconds (15 x twice a day)
