Post Frenectomy Exercise Video for Children Older than 3

After having a lingual frenectomy procedure performed (tongue tie release), it is important to perform exercises to help strengthen the tongue muscle and build oral awareness. This video demonstrates exercises to be performed for 2-4 weeks post procedure. *these exercises are not meant to replace formal therapy by an Speech Language Pathologist, Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist or other appropriate functional provider

A description of each exercise is listed below:

  1. “jaw breakers” – use tongue to touch top back molars (10 x twice a day)

  2. “clicks” – touch tongue to roof of mouth (10 clicks x 3 times a day). Try to hold for 20-30 seconds.

  3. “rolling” – take finger and roll upward on surgery site (10 x twice a day)

  4. “wag the tail” – stretch tongue laterally both sides as far as possible (10 x twice a day)
